ANNOUNCING MUSCLE MEMORY FROM MEL BRYANT’S FORTHCOMING EP
July 8th, 2021
Written in Bryant’s childhood bedroom,
Muscle Memory is a visceral and intimate look into the reality of faded relationships. The band paints with a palate of dramatic builds, gratifying-yet-unsettling feel changes, lush harmonies, and Mel’s wailing vocals. Joined by cowriter
Aaron John Hicks, the song is at once tragic and romantic, like a car crash on the way to an alt-country emo show.
“ …blistering rock and roll ascensions progressively wrapping around Bryant’s vocals that are powerful yet adorned with a beautiful bite.”
— American Pancake
The band tracked the song live at church-turned-studio Echo Mountain in Asheville, North Carolina with NewSong Recordings own Gar Ragland and produced the song in their backyard shed-turned-studio.
Nashville based, NYC & Philly bred band
Mel Bryant & the Mercy Makers met in Miami and moved together to Nashville to follow their dreams of bringing rock back to the radio. They are as diverse in tastes as they are well traveled. Bassist and bandleader Mel Bryant sends visceral vocals and no nonsense lyrics atop guitarist Conor McCarthy’s prodigious prog rock riffs, interplaying thunderous grooves provided by Bonham disciple Brendan Bird. They draw inspiration from timeless rockers like Fleetwood Mac and the Allman Brothers, as well as modern muses like Phoebe Bridgers and Mitski.
